Student Leadership Matters
A piece of advice I would like to give to all prospective university students is to get involved in student leadership. Student leadership is when a student becomes a part of a certain administrative student body, that makes key decisions or set policies that affect certain or all students and their overall university experience. Now the key question is why is it important/does it matter?
Get involved in student leadership
Firstly student leadership increases a student’s exposure, and provides them with problem solving skills, which helps them immensely, especially in terms of employability after graduation. Secondly student leadership gives a student the chance to be a part of the decision making that shapes their university, this gives the students the experience to make quick, well though out decisions, something that may come in handy in their professional, as well as personal life. Student leadership is also a way, one can give back to their university, by concentrating their efforts and working towards the betterment of the student community.
At McGill, I am actively involved in student leadership. Currently I am a member of the Library Improvement Fund Committee. The committee monitors and works towards distributing the $700,000 Library Improvement Fund, that aims towards improving the university’s libraries to create a superior student experience.
